Squeezed out emotion. Was long, idiosyncratic, great scenery but didn’t leave us guessing. Moving long story. Beautiful, sensitive, intense Moving Not sure if it was as good as the book. Better on second viewing. Too much sensuality over substance. Excellent photography and acting. Soundtrack too loud and sometimes distorted. No mobile phones! Uncomfortable. Very cleverly directed story. Could not understand the dialogue again. Good performances, preferred first hour with more suggestive plot, then seems uncertain where to take it. Growing up – happy? Beautiful father/son scene. Diction really poor. Boring, predictable, too much angst and been done before but better. Didn’t find any of the relationships credible – clumsy dialogue at times. Not Jewish, American or Italian and prefer boys and girls. Sorry, not my cup of tea! I missed a quarter of the film because eyes were closed.
