Florence Pugh was sensational. Painting Vermeer interiors. Stunned – they do say it’s grim ‘up North’. Shakespeare would have been proud. The silences were profound. A++ Chilling. The girl was so brilliant at conveying her thoughts with very little expression. I enjoyed the way we were led to sympathise with Catherine for the first hour or so, only to be shocked by her callousness. A for acting – rather (maccol?) story. I guess the film was well made, just the content was horrible. Use of silence was very atmospheric and full of meaning. Wonderful screenplay – had me so absorbed I forgot to drink my wine! Kept you on the edge of your seat right to the end. Many shades of black! A+ Black widows! Convincing acting. More suspense than a Yorkshire Terrier watching his human eat a slice of pizza. Katherine’s response to act the trousers role made her seem to lack any moral integrity. A slow beginning then, Boy, we were off! Well acted, but the sound could have been better. Harrowing, horrific. Unrealistic and very slow but rescued by the final scene. Innocence to Evil! Not one likeable character, except for the cat, and that didn’t make it to the end of the film either! Terrible story but sadly could see how it could happen in those times. A truly odd film but somehow gripping to the end. Not an uplifting film but full of gothic treachery to the end. Boredom is a terrible thing. Quite boring, which was a surprise. Atmospheric. Original Lady Macbeth could have learned a few tricks from this one! Not a lot going on other than depressing things! Not really entertaining, just morbid. Only one that got my sympathetic vote was the cat but beautifully filmed. So many unanswered questions and no more episodes to answer them …. Atmospheric I suppose. Lady Macbeth – not really. I wish I’d known in advance it wasn’t Shakespeare’s Macbeth! Unsure what to think. Drivel! Started implausibly, got predictable. The Shakespeare version is more convincing. Cheviot hill were nice. 90 minutes of my life I’ll never see again! Thoroughly horrid! Horrid.
